How do I check my +2 result and take the grade increment exam?

What it is
The National Examinations Board (NEB) runs the grade 12 exam and publishes results on its website. A subject marked NG (not graded) means you didn't reach the minimum mark, and you won't get a full pass until you clear it.
You have two ways to fix a result. Retotalling rechecks how your marks were added up. The grade increment exam, often called the chance exam, lets students who got NG in up to two subjects sit them again a few weeks after results, without waiting a year.

How it works

Check the result
NEB publishes the result on its website, where you check it free with your symbol number and date of birth. SMS and IVR services listed in the result notice cost a small fee.

Ask for retotalling if a grade looks wrong
Apply online within the window in NEB's notice. In 2083 retotalling cost Rs 1,000 per subject and was open from 6 to 12 Ashadh.

Fill in the grade increment form if you got NG
Regular students who scored at least D in their other theory subjects and got NG or were absent in up to two subjects can sit the grade increment (chance) exam. Fill in the form through your school by the deadline.

Sit the exam and check the new result
In 2083 the grade 12 grade increment exam was held on 2 and 3 Shrawan. NEB publishes the result on its website a few weeks later.

Common problems
I got NG in three subjects.
The grade increment exam only covers up to two. With more, you sit those subjects again in the next annual exam as a partial examinee.
Will retotalling change my marks?
Only if there was an error adding them up or a question left unmarked. It isn't a re-evaluation of your answers.
