What it is
A demat account holds your shares electronically at CDS and Clearing Limited (CDSC). You open it through a depository participant (DP), not at CDSC itself, and it can start with zero shares.
Meroshare is CDSC's online service on top of it. You use it to apply for IPOs, see your holdings and approve transfers when you sell. You can't apply for IPOs online or sell on the secondary market without one, so most people open both together.
Who needs it
- Anyone who wants to apply for IPOs or buy and sell shares in Nepal. Every listed share is held electronically in a demat account.

How it works
- 1
Choose a depository participant (DP)
You can't open a demat account directly with CDSC. Go to a DP, which is usually a bank's capital arm or a broker. Many banks let you apply online through their capital company.
- 2
Fill in the demat form
Submit the form with your documents. CDSC's system then gives you a 16-digit BOID, which is your demat account number for every share transaction.
- 3
Add Meroshare
Fill in the Meroshare form at the same DP and pay Rs 50. Your username and password arrive by email. Log in, change the password and set a transaction PIN.
- 4
Get a CRN from your bank
To apply for IPOs through Meroshare, your bank gives you a C-ASBA Registration Number (CRN). Many banks issue it through mobile banking. You can get one from each bank you hold an account with.
- 5
Renew every year
Pay the yearly demat and Meroshare fees from inside Meroshare using eSewa, Khalti, Prabhu Pay, IME Pay or connectIPS. Unpaid accounts are frozen.

Common problems
Can I have more than one demat account?
You can hold up to two. But if you apply for the same IPO from both, every application of yours for that issue is cancelled.
My Meroshare stopped working.
The usual cause is an unpaid yearly fee. In 2026 CDSC suspended Meroshare for accounts with dues from 1 August. Pay from inside Meroshare and it reopens.
I forgot my Meroshare password or PIN.
Use "Forgot your password?" on the login page, or change the transaction PIN from your profile. If that fails, ask your DP to reset it.
Where do I see my shares?
Meroshare shows your holdings, their value at the last closing price, your purchase cost (WACC) and how long you've held each share.
