Short answer
If you or someone else is in danger right now, call 1166, the national suicide prevention helpline, which the Kathmandu Post reported runs around the clock and is free from any Nepali SIM. Call 100 or go to the nearest emergency department if someone is at immediate risk. For ongoing care, government psychiatrists see patients at Mental Hospital Lagankhel, which now sells outpatient tickets online, and at TU Teaching Hospital's psychiatry department in Maharajgunj. Counselling is also offered by organisations such as TPO Nepal.

Government hospitals charge an outpatient ticket fee plus any tests and medicine. Government health insurance covers counselling and medicine at participating hospitals, within its limits.
The queue at the Mental Hospital is huge.
It's Nepal's only government mental hospital and sees over 150 outpatients a day. Book the outpatient ticket online on its website to save time.
Is there another helpline?
TU Teaching Hospital runs a suicide prevention hotline on 9840021600, according to the Kathmandu Post.
How do I help a friend who's struggling?
Stay with them if they're at risk, and help them call 1166 or get to a hospital emergency department.
