Short answer
Apply online on your province's EDLVRS portal to add the new category (for example B for cars) to your existing licence. You sit the written exam for that category, using its own question bank, then take its trial. Once you pass, the category is added to the licence you already have. In Bagmati the fee for adding categories A to F is Rs 1,000 for 2083/84.

Common problems
Do I need to sit the written exam again?
Yes, for the new category. The Department of Transport Management publishes separate question banks for each category, and the car (B) bank has questions you won't have seen for the bike test.
Will adding a category change my expiry date?
The category is added to your existing licence. When you next renew, Bagmati charges only the renewal fee of your most expensive category and all the others are renewed with it.
Can I add a scooter-only (K) licence to a car licence?
You can add any category you're eligible for. If you'll ever ride a geared motorbike, add A instead of K, because K only covers scooters.
