How do I apply for the MBBS and nursing entrance (MECEE-BL)?

What it is
Every bachelor's programme in medical education in Nepal, from MBBS to nursing and pharmacy, admits students through one exam: the Medical Education Common Entrance Examination for bachelor's level (MECEE-BL), run by the Medical Education Commission.
Your rank decides which programme and college you can choose, and whether you get one of the limited scholarship seats. Applications open online once +2 results are out, usually in Shrawan or Bhadra.

Apply online
Register on entrance.mec.gov.np during the window. In 2026 applications were open from 10 to 31 August, then at double fee until 7 September.

Pay the fee
Pay Rs 4,000 through the options shown in the portal before the deadline.

Sit the exam
A three-hour objective exam worth 200 marks on an OMR sheet. Each right answer earns one mark and each wrong one loses 0.25.

Check results and choose a college
The Commission publishes results by rank. Counselling then allocates scholarship and paid seats at government and private colleges by merit.

Common problems
How many MBBS scholarship seats are there?
Reports put it at about 691 of roughly 2,600 MBBS seats, plus reserved seats. The rest are paid seats at private colleges, which cost over Rs 40 lakh.
Is there a condition on scholarship seats?
Yes. Scholarship graduates are required to serve in government health facilities, usually for two years, under the doctors' mobilisation rules.
One exam covers nursing and pharmacy too?
Yes. MECEE-BL is the single entrance for MBBS, BDS, BSc nursing and midwifery, BPH, B Pharm, BAMS, BPT, BSc MLT and other bachelor's programmes in medical education.
Are there scholarships to study medicine abroad?
The Commission sometimes selects students for MBBS and BDS scholarships offered by governments such as Bangladesh, Pakistan and Egypt. Watch its scholarship notices.
