What it is
Most visitors get a tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport or a land border, or apply at a Nepali embassy before travelling. You fill in an online form, pay at the bank counter and collect the visa at the immigration desk.
Tourist visas are issued for 15, 30 or 90 days. They can be extended at the Department of Immigration up to a total of 150 days in a calendar year.

Common problems
Who gets a free visa?
Children under 10, SAARC citizens except Afghans for up to 30 days on their first visit in a visa year, NRN card holders and Chinese nationals, according to the Department of Immigration.
What happens if I overstay?
You pay the extension fee plus a fine of USD 5 a day. Extend before your visa runs out.
Can I work on a tourist visa?
No. Work needs a non-tourist work visa with a labour permit and recommendation from a ministry.
