Short answer
Use only a health institution on the Department of Foreign Employment's approved list, which you can search at foreignjob.dofe.gov.np. For jobs in the Gulf (Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain), you also book the GCC medical through Wafid (which replaced GAMCA) and do it at a Wafid-approved centre. Bring your passport and photos, and don't let an agent send you to an unlisted clinic.

- Check the centre on the Department of Foreign Employment's approved list.
- For Gulf jobs, book on Wafid first and note your appointment slip.
- Bring your passport, photos and any medical history you have.
- Keep the report and receipt. You'll need the report for your visa and labour permit.
What's usually tested
Gulf and other destination countries set their own medical standards. Expect a general examination, chest X-ray and blood and urine tests for infectious diseases. Ask the centre for the destination country's list.
Common problems
The agency wants me to use a clinic that isn't on the list.
Don't. Reports from unlisted clinics can be rejected, and the department publishes the approved list so workers can check. Report pressure to use a particular clinic on 1140.
What is Wafid?
It's the Gulf states' system for booking the medical examination that their visas require. It replaced GAMCA. You book on wafid.com, choose a Wafid-approved centre in Nepal and pay the booking fee online, reported as USD 10.
I was found unfit. Can I try another centre?
Results are shared through the system, so changing centres isn't a way around them. Ask the centre what was found and see a doctor about it.
Who pays for the medical?
Under Nepal's free visa, free ticket policy for some destinations, the employer is meant to cover many recruitment costs. Ask the agency in writing who pays and keep the receipt.
